Dr. Nadine Pappas, a breast surgeon employed by Saint Michael’s Medical Center who has been practicing in the Greater Newark area for the last two decades, recently relocated from Belleville to Kearny.

Dr. Pappas, who graduated from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, completed her residency at University Hospital in Newark. Ever since, she has been dedicated to serving women in the community.

“Breast surgeons are a unique type of surgeon because they spend more time in the office with patients than in the operating room,” Dr. Pappas said.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced many women to miss their mammography screenings and Dr. Pappas encourages women to make an appointment as soon as possible.

“Because some breast cancers can advance rapidly, months without detection could mean fewer treatment options and a whole year or more could lead to a greater chance of death,” Dr. Pappas said.

Dr. Pappas said the early detection of breast cancer and providing the most up to date and personalized treatment plan for patients is her number one priority, but she added there is more that she offers her patients.

“Meeting with a woman and determining her risk for breast cancer and developing a screening strategy gives women confidence and not anxiety,” Dr. Pappas said.

“It’s important to offer education about breast imaging and a review of benign or probably benign findings, which eases uncertainty and improves follow up,” she said. “If a woman has concerns about physiologic changes, such as breast tenderness, it can lead to a conversation about general health and well-being.”

Dr. Pappas’s loyal patients attest to the positive experience they have with her over the years.

“I become an active member of each of my patient’s healthcare team,” Dr. Pappas said.

Dr. Pappas’s new office is located at 847 Kearny Avenue, Kearny, NJ 07032. If you have questions, or would like to book an appointment, call 973-844-1000. Dr. Pappas also continues to see patients in her office at Saint Michaels.

The Women’s Imaging Center at Saint Michael’s offers comprehensive coordinated breast imaging services in a comfortable, inviting setting, provided by experienced, compassionate breast health professionals and technicians.

Those who are uninsured can receive free screening and follow-up services through the hospital’s In the Pink program.
