A team of medical residents from Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark finished second in the Challenge Bowl of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP), a medical Jeopardy-style competition.
The Saint Michael’s team qualified for the finals after winning the preliminary round, when they faced residents from Monmouth Medical Center, Community Medical Center-Rutgers Health and JFK Medical Center.
In the finals, the team faced competition from Jersey Shore Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson and Trinitas Hospital, which took first place in the challenge and will go on to represent New Jersey in the national competition.

The team was made up of Mohammad Abushanab, MD, a second-year resident, Yashwitha-Sai-Pulakurthi, MD, Samer Jumean, MD, and alternates Himaja Dutt Chigurupati, MD, Qusai Al Maharmeh, MD and Murad-Quirem, MD, who are all first-year residents.
