NEWARK, NJ – Saint Michael’s Medical Center is partnering with New Jersey Institute of Technology to provide healthcare services and medical care to NJIT students.

The partnership between the hospital and the college, which are located next to each other in the heart of Newark’s University Heights neighborhood, began this past semester.

Medical services are being provided through the Primary and Specialty Care Center at Saint Michael’s, an existing health clinic that also serves the community. Students were previously seen in the NJIT Office of Health Services.

“This is a wonderful partnership between two great institutions in Newark and an example of how Saint Michael’s is continuously looking for ways to reach out to the community,” said Saint Michael’s CEO Robert Iannaccone.

Saint Michael’s, which was purchased by Prime Healthcare in May 2016, is a 358-bed regional tertiary-care, teaching and research center affiliated with New York Medical College.

“This partnership means students at NJIT will receive the highest quality medical care while they are on campus,” said Dr. Marybeth Boger, the dean of students and campus life at NJIT. “When we have a world-class medical facility next door, it makes sense to ensure our students have access to the healthcare services they provide.”

Both Saint Michael’s and NJIT have rich histories in Newark. Saint Michael’s recently celebrated the 150th anniversary of founding. NJIT, originally known as Newark Technical School and later as Newark College of Engineering, was founded in 1885.

The Primary and Speciality Care Center is open to NJIT students from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A primary care physician is always on duty when the center is open. NJIT students who need medical attention after hours can visit Saint Michael’s Emergency Department.
