The Department of Surgery uses the da Vinci Robotic Surgery system.

This technology, combined with the skill and experience of the Saint Michael’s medical team using it, is why nearly one of every two surgeries performed at the hospital is done in an outpatient setting. The hospital also is a regional leader in hepatobiliary surgery, which involves the removal of benign and malignant tumors from the liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts. These procedures – performed under the aegis of The Cancer Center at Saint Michael’s – require a higher level of skill and expertise as they are among the most complex and challenging surgeries.

Saint Michael’s Medical Center surgeons are assisted in each procedure by a team of experienced operating room nurses with the support of the hospital’s experienced nurses and anesthesiologists who are part of the Pain Management department.
